Both were probably due to my (relative) illiteracy in Japanese. (\u00e6\u2014\u00a5\u00e6\u0153\u00ac\u00e8\u00aa\u017e\u00e3\u0081\u0152\u00e3\u0081\u00a1\u00e3\u201a\u2021\u00e3\u0081\u00a3\u00e3\u0081\u00a8\u00e3\u0081\u00a0\u00e3\u0081\u2018\u00e8\u00aa\u00ad\u00e3\u201a\u0081\u00e3\u0081\u00be\u00e3\u0081\u2122)<\/p>\n<p>Note that you can largely ignore the shops until very late in the game (even until the postgame!), so this didn&#8217;t actually hurt me very much.<\/p>\n<h2>Raw material types<\/h2>\n<p>I figured out early that some \u00e7\u00b4\u00a0\u00e6\u009d\u0090 (raw materials) increase the EXP multiplier for a piece of equipment and some give lots of EXP but lower the EXP multiplier. I didn&#8217;t realize it was easy to tell which was which.<\/p>\n<p>There are three types of items:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Biological materials increase the EXP multiplier but doesn&#8217;t give much actual EXP.<\/li>\n<li>Mechanical\/artificial materials give lots of EXP but lower the EXP multiplier.<\/li>\n<li>Catalysts let you upgrade an item once it&#8217;s maxed out.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It&#8217;s easy to tell which is which, even if you can&#8217;t read, because <em>they have different icons<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2>Some materials are designed to be sold<\/h2>\n<p>I got most of the extra money I used for the occasional store purchase by selling phoenix wings (\u00e3\u0192\u2022\u00e3\u201a\u00a7\u00e3\u0192\u2039\u00e3\u0192\u0192\u00e3\u201a\u00af\u00e3\u201a\u00b9\u00e3\u0081\u00ae\u00e5\u00b0\u00be). What I didn&#8217;t notice was that some of the items I assumed were for increasing EXP multiplier were actually for selling to the store.<\/p>\n<p>I would not have made this mistake were I a native Japanese speaker; the item descriptions for these are usually pretty clear.
